Overview
Clockwork mechanisms are dense with interacting constraints: gear trains must mesh at correct center distances, the comb and drum must align within fractions of a millimeter to pluck cleanly, and the whole assembly has to come apart and go back together for tuning. This project packaged a music box movement and a cuckoo action into one mechanism.
Execution
I designed the mechanism in CAD, planned the manufacturing for each component, and machined and assembled the system — from the pinned drum down to the miniature cuckoo — iterating on fits and alignment until the action ran reliably.
